about me
Ola! My name is Quenton and I'm currently 20 years old taking my final year of Diploma in Mass Communication at IACT College. I chose to pursue my studies in mass communication because of my sociability. After high school, a few of my teachers and classmates pointed out that I was always the class clown and the noisiest in the room. Without disagreeing with them I did love the engagement that it brought. Eventually, they recommended communication courses for me as they saw fit my skill set. Another reason is that I have always been intrigued and fascinated by the communication world and its operation, at the same time mass communication does provide a huge umbrella of career paths for me to choose from as I was uncertain about the specific to follow through.
Throughout the course, my skill set has expanded exponentially from understanding how communication is the pinnacle of every relationship to applying it on professional or casual occasions. Practical skills such as knowledge on how to write on different media platforms prove useful when my work revolves around it. One of my favorite skills that I've acquired is learning how to operate editing software namely adobe photoshop, premiere pro, and illustrator. It provided me with ways to express myself in ways words can't. Concurrently, I discovered my passion for photography and visual storytelling during the photography class. I love the thrill of using visuals as symbolism and implanting deeper personal meaning. The photos represent my persona that reflects on what I believe in and the culture that shaped me.
In the meantime, I do photography as a hobby with the complement of editing software which enhances the skill. While searching for the traits that differentiate me from others, slowly but surely as my craftsmanship develops I'll find my way. My other hobby is to host or commentate on events. One of the perks of being talkative is that it slowly manifests into a useful skill, but I still strive to sharpen my communication skills and hosting knowledge. It took much courage personally to agree on trying it out at first, but later I grew to love it.
On the other hand, I am an extrovert that loves to put a smile on people's faces. The idea of a supporting role is essential to all success stories and I see myself as such. But I can also take charge of the situation and progress to the best of my ability; most of my experiences as a leader are under assignment projects. For instance, we had to manage a news platform for young people. I took the role of the video department's leader. We succeed in completing the assignment and even opening up opportunities on a different platform.
I have experienced a few different fields of work during the holidays, ranging from a barista to a digital creator. My first job was as a barista at The Alley which is a cafe that serves boba beverages, I then moved on to a part-time waiter at a Korean restaurant while juggling my studies. Recently, I had the opportunity to work at Universal Music Malaysia as an intern. During my time there, I requested to try different positions in the department such as a digital editor, public relations person, photographer, and videographer. I took advantage by using my photography and editing skills to the fullest, I remember editing more than 3 videos a day for the company's social media content. It forced me to manage my time better to incorporate all the other pending work. But it was all worth it as I came out of it with a better work ethic.
In conclusion, my decision to join the communication industry has been a great choice. It has accommodated my existing skills and fortified them. I am thankful for the opportunities that have opened up to strengthen my foundation and build my future. I aspire to do more impactful projects in the future to inspire myself and those around me. That is all from me and thank you for sticking to the end! I wish you a great one!
